Spicy Hawaiian Hot Dogs

Being an adult means never letting go of your love for hot dogs (because they’re delicious, don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise!) But it also means dressing them up because you can and should!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll never stop loving a classic dog with mustard, relish and onions (no ketchup, fight me). I also adore the Seattle dog with mustard, cream cheese and caramelized onions. If you haven’t tried one yet, I suggest you try one ASAP!

But never have I ever gone rogue with my hot dog fixins’ and tried something totally different. These spicy Hawaiian dogs were an experiment that turned out in the best possible way. I call them Hawaiian because they feature grilled pineapple, a limey, teriyaki mayo which is so good you’ll want to lick it straight off the spoon, fresh jalapeño and fresh cilantro all atop a buttery brioche bun.

In true Hawaiian food flavor profile fashion, it hits on sweet, savory and spicy notes for the all around perfect bite. Your summer just won’t be complete without adding these to your next BBQ spread!

Spicy Hawaiian Hot Dogs

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs (all-beef is best but you can totally do veggie dogs, impossible or beyond dogs to make this veggie friendly!)

  • 4 brioche hot dog buns

  • 4 slice pineapple rings

  • 1/4 cup mayo

  • 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce

  • Juice of 1/2 lime

  • Chopped cilantro

  • Slice jalapeño, seeds and ribs optional

Directions

Combine mayo, teriyaki sauce and lime juice together in a small bowl then set aside. On a medium-high grill, cook hot dogs until nice and golden brown, about 10-12 minutes total. About halfway through cooking, adding pineapple slices to the cooler side of the grill and cook through a few minutes a side. You want nice grill marks on them but don’t want them to burn! Pull hot dogs and pineapple from the grill then toast your buns on a warming rack for 1-2 minutes.

Assemble your dogs! Break up or cut each pineapple ring into a few pieces and top on your hot dogs in the bun, along with jalapeño slices, a drizzle of teriyaki mayo and cilantro. Enjoy!
