In my family, we are huge chips and salsa eaters. In fact, almost every day I can remember growing up (and still to this day when I come home to visit) my dad gets home from a long day of work or from working in the yard and immediately pours himself a bowl of Pace Picante salsa and a big handful of tortilla chips. It's like clockwork! My dad is clearly a smart man though because chips and salsa are quite possibly one of the most perfect snacks ever. Crunchy, salty chips and spicy, zesty salsa? It's like the poster child of snacks.

The whole family agrees, though we don't always agree with his choice in salsa (hey, he's a man who knows what he likes!) Which is why my mom started to make her own homemade salsa.

To put it in perspective of how addictive and delicious this salsa is, my mom had to start making this practically weekly. She couldn't keep it stocked in the fridge! It became our go-to condiment, not to mention it made an appearance at most family gatherings. Family and friends know this salsa well.

And for good reason. It seriously is one of the best salsas I've ever tasted. And what's even better? There are just five ingredients in it. You heard right, just five! And in just minutes (literally - the "cooking" part involves a few zips in a food processor) you'll be devouring this smoky, spicy salsa yourself. Enjoy it with a bag of Juanita's chips (but no other tortilla chip because that would be sacrilege), on tacos or even on scrambled eggs - your new favorite salsa awaits.

Mama D's 5-Ingredient Salsa

Makes 2 pints

Ingredients

  • 2 cans fire roasted tomatoes

  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled and cut in half

  • 3/4 cup cilantro leaves

  • 3-4 green onions, chopped roughly (both white and green parts, ends removed)

  • 20 pickled jalapeno slices plus about 1 tablespoon liquid from jar

  • Kosher salt to taste

Directions

In a food processor, pulse together cilantro and garlic until chunky. Add fire roasted tomatoes, jalapeños and juice, and green onions. Pulse several times in food processor until you've reached desired consistency. Add salt to taste and more jalapenos, if desired. Pour into a mason jar or a bowl and chill for at least an hour before serving. Enjoy!
