Korean BBQ Turkey Burgers

I have recently been obsessed with all things Asian flavors. Savory, sweet, full of umami and always interesting, it's hard to get tired of the infinite flavor combinations in Asian cuisine. So when I encountered Trader Joe's Korean inspired BBQ sauce, it was only a matter of time before I was putting it on anything and everything, including my life-changing, Korean BBQ inspired turkey burgers.

You heard it right, I am serving up another semi-homemade, Trader Joe's special with these babies, because why try to reinvent the wheel when you have good ol' TJ's by your side?

My Korean inspired turkey burgers are really nothing too groundbreaking or complicated, but rather just the perfect combination of ingredients. Simply baste your turkey burgs in the miracle that is Trader Joe's Korean BBQ sauce for a savory, sweet, perfectly charred and juicy bite.

Then, simply assemble the perfect burger medley starting with spongy Hawaiian sweet buns, crunchy shredded Napa cabbage, cool and crisp thinly sliced cucumbers, more BBQ sauce and, last but not least, a healthy schmear of Japanese Kewpie mayo (if you have never had Japanese Kewpie mayo before, you will know why this is 100% necessary. Never had it? Just go ahead and Amazon yourself some Kewpie mayo right this second because ordering mayo online is a totally normal thing to do, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!)

If you can get your hands on some TJ's Korean BBQ sauce, do yourself a solid and whip these up pronto and you'll see why I have been grilling these bad boys up all summer!

Korean BBQ Turkey Burgers

Makes 4 quarter-pound burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey

  • Salt and pepper

  • 1/2 cup Trader Joe's Korean BBQ sauce

  • 4 Hawaiian sweet hamburger buns

  • Japanese mayo - no exception!

  • Thinly sliced English cucumber

  • Shredded Napa cabbage

Directions

Form four evenly sized patties with the ground turkey. Season each side with salt and pepper and set aside. Grill on a medium-high heat grill for 4 minutes a side. Baste with barbecue sauce and cook for 1 additional minute on each side. Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes. While turkey burgers are resting, toast buns on the grill for about 2 minutes, until golden brown.

To assemble, spread Japanese mayo on both buns. Lay a bed of shredded cabbage on bottom bun and top with turkey patty. Top with more barbecue sauce, if desired. Top with cucumber slices and top of bun. Smoosh and devour!
