I'm no Martha Stewart, but if there's one thing I know about entertaining it's that you know you've succeeded when your dishes disappear quickly. If your dish is devoured within minutes and then subsequently made the hot topic of conversation at the party, you know you've hit it out of the park!

Because I'm always eager to please, whenever I'm heading to a party or hosting my own, I resort to only my best, tastiest of dishes that I know will be a huge crowd-pleaser. Insert plug for my curry deviled eggs, smoked salmon spread and Dr. Pepper pulled pork.

While those recipes are tasty no doubt, this recipe is in a league of its own. To put it in perspective of just how delicious and popular these babies are, whenever I take them to any party, they not only disappear fast (sometimes faster than the main course is served) they are quite literally the hot topic of conversation. And for good reason. Semi sweet chocolate chips and cocoa powder swirl together in buttery marshmallow fluff before getting tossed with your standard Rice Krispies and are made even better with a fine sea salt finish. It makes for one perfect, rich, chocolaty, salty bite.

Pro tip: you better plan to at least double this recipe because they are addictive! And once you make them and grace the party with their presence, you’ll be the hero of the hour. And all I have to say to that is, YOU'RE WELCOME.

Salty Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 16 oz bag marshmallows

  • 1/2 stick salted butter (you could use unsalted, but why not add an extra layer of salty/sweet goodness?)

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal

  • About 1 teaspoon of sea salt

Directions

In a large pot, melt mallows, butter and cocoa powder until they are melty, ooey and gooey. Add chocolate chips until melted and well combined. Remove from heat.

Butter a 8x8 baking dish. Add Rice Krispies to mallow and chocolate mixture and stir until well combined. Add Krispies to baking dish and pat down until surface is even. Sprinkle evenly with sea salt. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for about an hour (if you can wait that long) until they are set. Cut into squares and devour.
